Sebastien Ogier was able to convince the Skoda |
Seasonal trend
Sebastien Ogier was determined that there would be 2012 to get much for him. After signing with Volkswagen he eeked the transition year in a Skoda Fabia S2000 and gained experience and improved his pace notes. "For us it is all about this year, to gain experience and develop parallel to the Polo, in 2013 to compete with a powerful and competitive package," said the Frenchman.
Only the New Zealand Rally was held without Volkswagen, Ogier still get at the end a total of 41 points and the tenth World Cup ranking. It was never questioned who the number one team because both Andreas Mikkelsen and Kevin Abbring failed to reach the finish line ahead of Ogier. Nevertheless, the Frenchman is not error-free, so he threw the very first use in Monte Carlo away his car.
Outstanding Rally
The best result of the season Ogier managed to Sardinia. He drove his Skoda Fabia S2000 to fifth overall, achieving the best placement of a SWRC cars in the series' history. "It's almost like a win," said a ausgepumter but proud Ogier. Even more impressive, however, was to test Tergu Osilo-1, because the Frenchman reached Historical - he set the first fastest time in an underpowered car and was thus the first WRC cars seven seconds behind.
The reason was that due to the rainy conditions all WRC cars were started on the soft tires. "Before the start of the test was to me that the tires of the WRC cars were already badly worn - it was clear that this was the chance of a good result," revealed Ogier, one of the first and only personal best S2000 cars was right.
Future
From the Monte Carlo Rally 2013 starts again for the former Citroen WRC pilots the adventure. Volkswagen completed testing on gravel, ice, snow and asphalt, and looked at every stage on the right track. Nevertheless Ogier warned against too much optimism as regards immediate success. On the one hand is far from clear whether the Polo capable of winning from the first run and was on the other he would have to switch back from an S2000 to a WRC cars.
Nevertheless, the direction is clear, for Ogier would achieve the thing it in 2011 Citroen narrowly failed: get the world title. "Frankly, I will not be happy when I'm not on the podium," the Frenchman made no ado. "I'm a competitor and I want to at least fight for the podium, but I know it will not be easy."
