The new vehicle, which is based on the conventionally powered RAV4 and is equipped with an electric powertrain from Tesla. The range is about 160 kilometers. Impressive is despite a 41.8 kWh battery, the large vehicle with a weight of only 1829 kg 213 kg heavier than its V6 petrol counterpart. The RAV4 EV will be launched in late summer 2012 with prices starting at 49,800 U.S. dollars to the California market. Toyota expects to sell around 2,600 units in the next three years. The vehicle is produced at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Woodstock / Canada and will be available exclusively in North America.
Cooperation with Tesla
In May 2010, Toyota and Tesla had agreed to cooperate in the development and production of electric vehicles and their components. As the first intermediate result of this cooperation was established in November 2010 at the Los Angeles Auto Show a battery-electric-powered concept vehicle introduced.
